Gosh so glad I don't have to go to Melbourne for the assembly! Not that I don't like Melbourne but in summer at peak season, dragging my carcass around in meeting clothes...drag. all the sisters are just excited to have an excuse to shop in Australia's fashion capital.

They are more focussed on the EVENT or ACTIVITY, rather than the substance of the information presented
by stuckinarut2 inhave you noticed how the org, and individuals are more concerned about the actual event such as the international conventions, rather than the content of the program?.
i often shake my figurative head (ok, literal one too!
), as i see the all the hype being generated by the act of attending, and think that most are not actually interested in the stuff that will be presented, but are more concerned about simply being there or getting there..... and, they are more focussed on the activity of a campaign, such as a tract work, or invitation hand out, rather than the actual content of the material.. .

It's all a circus to keep them busy. How else did they hold us in for so long? By not giving us a second to sit and think.

Voluntary Donations - Not Really Mentioned Anymore?
by baldeagle inmy active jw wife has gone to all meetings, assemblies, memorials, and service groups by herself after i faded off the radar about 5 years ago.
i asked her this past saturday as she prepared to join another sister from the kh for the service group regarding, voluntary donations.
i inquired if publishers still mention this to the householder when placing literature.

That arrangement started in Australia in 2000 and I remember them telling us about asking for money (which most jws never did because it's just awkward asking strangers for a religious donation in a society in which talking religion is somewhat taboo) then later saying only mention the donation if the householder asks if the crap they take costs anything. It was still like that 1.5 years ago when I was still in.

Yep. It was always a big social event and pageant for me. The talks were always boring and degrading.

Anyone recall a time when your congregation came to the aid of a Brother or sister in need??
by jam ini'm not talking about a individual, but a congregation as a whole.. i'm talking about a brother or sister that really hit hard times.. have there ever been an occasion where the brothers (elders).
decided to dip into the kh funds and help one in need????.
example, brother loose his job, get evicted, family of four or.

We had a cake sale and combined garage sale to raise money for an elder's medical procedure once. Nothing ever from the kh funds. Most jws don't even know there are any except for those to pay the bills.

Why do Christian nations think they can assimilate Muslims into their communities , does Islam attempt to assimilate Christians in their communities ?
by smiddy inislam /muslims today are what christianity was centuries ago , the two beleif systems are like oil and water , not to be mixed .
christians are not tolerated spreading their infectious disease amongst muslims, in islamic countrys , and harsh penalties apply for them doing so in muslim countries , including the death penalty.
stonings , whippings etc.. on the other hand christian nations are very tolerant of muslim extremists who incite hatred and violence on their own territory , and they get a slap on the wrist and say dont do it again .

Most Muslims are decent people like anyone else who just want to live their lives in peace and quiet. The ones I know do anyway. It's a shame there are so many nutters running their countries and communities though.
Where the 20th century was the century of war and ideology, the 21st is becoming the century of religious extremism. I don't know if it's because Muslims are producing more inhumane practices than they used to, or if it's more a matter of these things making world news for the first ttime. I suspect it's the latter and they have always had such barbaric culture .

How many have stopped attending at YOUR Kingdumb Hell?
by hamsterbait inon a recent thread about the fleecing of the sheeples, one poster said their congo was down to 85 publishers from 102.. the last hall i attended had 80-odd publishers 20 years ago, now only 30.. how much of a decline at your kh?.

I've been out over a year now but I know my city experienced growth and new congs are formed. However, my city and region has the highest rate of migration from other parts of Australia so most of the new witnesses moved in from other states. That would mean there would be less growth in other parts of Australia as people keep moving to south east Queensland. Even here though baptisms seem to have gone way down. When I got baptized in 2000 I was one of 5 just from my cong alone, 3 of us converts at that, whereas last time I went to a ca in 2012 the whole circuit didn't produce as many as one cong in 2000.

Jehovah's Witness Tragedy - a series of installments.
by Julia Orwell ini'm working on a short story/novella about a jw family.
it's called the opal ring.
i will be posting it in installments, and would like some feedback on it.
-

Thanks for the feedback. I've studied, edited and taught writing plus tutored education at a university level. I've written stories of no more than 700 words, but this subject is more a novella than short story.
Sometimes sacrifices have to be made in writing, and I'm deliberately making the characters flat because that is how i see jws. I probably will elaborate on them a bit more in the final edit, but keep them quite bare still.

Yes, Alfred remembers it but his son is of my generation who only know it by whatever the wt last called it.
I have written more and I shall post it tonight. I've started my new job so I'm a little behind on writing atm.

I love the fact that the GB is becoming more visible. Why? Think micro expressions.
by Island Man inmicro expressions are involuntary facial expressions lasting for half a second or less.
these facial expressions mirror a person's true emotions and so provide a window into a person's feelings in response to a statement or question.
particular facial expressions correspond to particular emotions and the mappings are universal across cultures.
